I killed my trusty Hayes HFX's last night. As such I need some suggestions for a set of cheapish brakes.
I like the look of the Hayes Stroker Trails (which are getting good reviews) and can be found for around £125 for a full set on some European websites.
Has anyone got any experience of them, or any alternative suggestions?
Yep - recently put a pair of Strokers ( 203 ) on my Whyte-46 and more than impressed. Loads of power, nice feel, adjustable reach and look pretty good. Not bad for about 130 quid front & rear. Liked them so much bought a second pair to replace the HFX-9s on my Nitrous - haven't used yet as Nitrous is away "being fettled"...
i can't say i've had any problems with any brakes i've owned, be they hope, hayes, shimano, magura or avid. in your position? i'd go shimano or hayes (i'm really quite impressed with my ec trails)
Really? I had a CAmino and it was wank. Lever broke easily and couldn't be fixed and piston did a wierd thing so it never really returned properly. Hence why they were around so little time and never really got specced on much OEM.
Hmm, tbh I've not had many problems with my Hayes generally. They seemed quite robust generally and the "wooden" feel can be got used to.
The only reason they're knackered now is that the piston has corroded no longer fits snuggly in the caliper. As such when I pushed the pistons back in, in order to fit new pads, I got a soaking in brake fluid
So, has anyone spotted any good deals anywhere lately??
Hmm, a mate of mine bought a K18 and was quite dissapointed. It seems there might be a bit of a dodgy batch about as there's a few peeps out there with duff one's..
I've been looking at that Shimano XT/XTR deal for a while now, looks pretty good, I'm a bit of a tart though and the silver lever/grey caliper would ruin the look of my bike!
Merlin are also doing the strokers for £100 a pair... Not sure I'd trust Hayes again though, had a HFX on my DH bike which failed at a race...
Never had an issue with Hopes, got a Saint on my DH bike and it's awesome, Hayes are unreliable and Formulas are good if a little agricultural and not that powerful IMO
