Went through the loft last night and got down 10+ tyres which are in varying states of condition (some nearly new changed within a month of purchase of new bikes) and as i'm pretty sure most of them will never be used again by me i was wondering what to do with them?

Don't really want to bin them as they are all useable so would rather donate them to some kind of cycling charity or community project or something.  Anybody know of anything that may fit the bill?

Are Recycle still going (don't they sort out bikes for Africa?)?

Happy to help out any organisations but am way to tight to actually pay to send them off at my own expense.

Any guidance appreciated.......

I just feed my old tyres to my commuter bike. By the time they come off that they're properly dead... Are there no local MTBers to you? I tend to hand on stuff I'm done with to people starting out biking who can't afford to buy new (I'm with a University based club though, so it's easy to find people to hand stuff on to).

I would like to have somewhere I can recycle tyres though. They are recyclable, but most end up in landfill .

What area of the country are you in Steve, it might help people make suggestions as to more local charities that might take the tyres off your hands

I just throw mine over the nearest lamp post, to give that urban-chic look to the locality.

I'm in the Midlands (between Brum And Worcester).

I'd happily give the tyres away but the people i ride with wouldn't want them and i don't know any younger riders who may need freebies. The only people i could give them to are the pikeys i see riding around the local area and to be honest i'd rather stab myself in the eyes than help them!!

My (ex) commuting MTB has slicks on already so knobblies are no good to me for that.

I like the idea of finding one of those places that teaches local kids how to fix stuff and give them there but a search on the net puts me with Oxford as the closest and everywhere seems to want old bikes, not old parts/tryes?

I wish i was creative enough to make my own horsey statue, but i'm not, and besides, i've only got enough to maybe sculp a shetland pony........

Howies do them too.

Why not just leave any usable ones at your nearest trail centre with a "free tyres" note attached.

If you're on a budget, you could just tie an old inner tube round your waist.

Buy some monkeys and let them swing in them from a tree.

There's a number of cycle charities near me that are always asking for bike bits ... I'm sure there must be one near you ... do a google , your local council website might have info also .
