If you're running full length outers I'm surprised you have any issues.

I've got full lentgh XTs on my HT & never had a problem despite being abused the entire winter.

I have a set on the Blur that I built 2 years ago. I have never had to fettle them.

Flying Snake are the same for half the price - I wouldn't use anything else - smooth & maintenance free shifting.

I've used Gore-Tex ones in the past, but now stick to XTR. With a full cable run you should be fine with anything that has a half decent seal, if you have exposed inners, particularly on the down tube, my experience is that rock strike'll damage the sleeve that runs over the cable eventually, water gets in, corrosion etc and they die.

And if your rear mech uses a full-length outer, you'll only have enough cable in a Ride On pack to do the one shifter, which makes it a quite expensive exercise unless you only plan to do the rear mech.

They do shift well though, albeit a bit fiddly to install.

I read somewhere that Gore were to introduce a full length kit for an extra fiver or so.

I've been using the Gore cables for probably over 6 years or so (apart from couple of seasons they stopped making them). They are fit and forget & in the main I've tended to see over a year out of them riding throughout the seasons in the local gloop and the peaks. I use nothing else.
