I'm guessing it'll be like it mostly is - nasty at the top with lots of barely rideable bits and with a boggy section halfway down. It's a nice run or walk, but in my opinion anyway - and I live near the bottom of the poxy thing - has bugger all flow to it. It's not a patch on Cut Gate and certainly not worth the ride up the A57 from either direction.

Some people reckon it's fantastic. They're either bull-shitters, much better riders than me, or simply like pushing their bikes a lot

It runs down from the summit of the A57 Snake Pass into Old Glossop btw. The only legal way to the top on two wheels is on tarmac along the A57 with its rolling population of brain-dead drivers...

If you want something good in the same ilk, go and do Cut Gate out and back from the Langsett end. It's a long but mostly doable climb up to the big cairn above Ladybower, then you can turn round and enjoy and endless descent back to where you started - the section along Mickleden Edge is just feck off brilliant rocky singletrack

Ive ridden Cut Gat once before Juan and loved it,just looking for something else thats fairly short in the area. Will take into account your comments and have more of a look at whats around.Walking and pushing sounds to much like a day out with the pram and thats what I want to get away from

There's lots of good, shortish stuff around Ladybower and some currently damp but entertaining riding above Hayfield, though nothing as epic as Cut Gate. How well do you know the area?

Thanks for the heads up on the Dr.

No worries, mate. Have fun wherever you go. If you want something that feels a bit epic, try the so-called Beast descent from Hope Cross, then maybe tie it in with the endless hammer fest down Lockerbrook?
