Also depends on what riding you do. I've got a rhythm pro (in black, imported from the states) and it's very confidence inspiring for free-ridey stuff, but even though it's reasonably vented comapred to most, it'll boil your head if you try to ride up hill with it (I take it off and hang it on the handlebars.) I think it's also one of the best looking. The switchblade is an XC helmet with a chin guard, it won't give you the protection that a full-face will, but you can probably ride XC in it. The azonic is a full on DH lid.
I faced this problem a few months ago, spent loads of time in bike shops looking at different full face brands. Then I checked out MBUK for price deals, to get local shops to price match (helmets are expensive!)
I ended up with an Azonic AZX (make sure you get 2001 and not 2000 which has "circles" graphics). I paid £90, spent about 1 hour trying on large and medium sizes , went for medium. I also tried on Giro Mad Max and Mad Max 2, Specialised, Spikey Jack, Diamond Back, Fox Flite, etc. I found the Azonic the most comfortable and the lightest (carbon/kevlar) and it's motorbike certified so that's strong.
Go by fit! Your head may be a different shape to the shape of the helmet you like the look of. Just try loads on and see what fits well. Don't be fooled by price or fashion, fit is everything. You want a snug fit but not restricting or uncomfortable. And you don't want any loose movement, that won't help if your head hits the deck.
Don't bother with the switchblade, if you hit a tree it won't do shit (my friend broke his jaw wearing a switchblade).
I just grabbed myself a switchblade at half price. Unfortunately, I haven't crashed it yet, but I'm working on it. Works well when the wind picks up, keeps your face warm and your noggin cool!
Rob wot did u think of the specialized full facer? I'm thinking of getting that and I know you are gonna say save up for the AZX but i cant afford to spend that much . So does the Specialized look like quality ? I was also looking at the spikey jack but the chingaurd as far as i can remeber was just plastic , not reinforced with foam so i dont think i'll get it as all it would do is add weight.
