Right, at the risk of making myself look completely dense in the mtb world........I have 25.4mm bars at the moment and looking to go for a shorter stem and higher rise bars combo to improve my riding position. There seems to be loads more choice in 31.8mm so if I changed to OS bars do current grips, shifters and brake levers fit with no probs??

Yes, it is only the clamp area that is oversized, the area of the bars where brakes, shifters and grips fit is standard.

Yes. The OS bit is the centre of the bar then they taper down.

I can hear the words of my PE teacher ringing in my ears...."White socks or no socks!!!" We always used to laugh about that in the pub up until a few years ago. Funny how things tickle you when you've had a few.
