Hi all,

I've asked about this before but I need to pick your collective brains again.

I'm having some trouble with the rear wheel on my coyote again - it keeps slipping in the dropouts when I stick the brakes on. I added a couple of the on-one chain tugs to the mix a while ago which seemed to solve the problem but recently the it's come back.  I've tightened everything up and adjusted the tugs a bit but it still keeps happening and I can't seem to sort it out.....

It's driving me up the wall so any tips / help really would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Ed

with the chain tugs in place it shouldn't move at all, unless you have one side pulled too much making the wheel not centered.

That's what I thought. I checked that this afternoon and both tugs are pulling the same on both sides. Might be worth pulling apart and doing it again though, just in case.

Could it be the disc side moving back under braking?

I'd change the bolts to somethig with a collar and remove any loose paint, if there's any left, from around the dropout.

Jimmy, that's exactly it. Sorry - wasn't too clear in my original post.

What do you mean by "something with a collar" (being stupid)? Any chance you could stick a link so that I can see what you mean?

Nuts. I meant nuts with a collar, you know the ones that have a kinda built in washer. It helps the nut stay where it is when the initial pressure get taken up.

I think they're called track nuts.

Aha. Understand. Will see if they make any difference.

Thanks.

Most tugs only stop the wheel moving forward, disc braking forces move it back. Some of the nuts Jimmy has suggested and equally importantly, serrated cone lock-nuts. If they are smooth just take them off and attack them with a triangular file to make serrations to grip the inside of the dropouts.
