Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to the Peak district next month and wondered if anyone has some good xc routes to ride in the area? I'm sure there must be plenty.

I'm looking for rides roughly about 15-25 miles long.

Any routes, guides, or pointers in the right direction gratefully received.

Which bit of the Peaks are you thinking of riding?

White or Dark Peak for a start? There's flip loads of decent stuff in both but the really fun stuff (in my opinion) lurks around the Hope Valley, Edale, Mam Tor etc

There's some fantastic rides out there but some of it is quite hard to describe -

this book is supposed to be very good:

Sorry Dan, I could have been a big more specific couldnt I.

We are going to be staying in the Hamlet of Blore apparently. Which is in the White Peak District in the southern part of the National Park close to the "famous Dovedale".

I shall see if they do that book for the white peak too.

Thanks for the pointers, I will see what I can find out.

Ah right, I think there is an equivalent book for the White Peak area.

To be honest I don't really ride that way so don't know much of it. However, the guys on the Peak Mid Week thread might know more:

It would be great to know which are good and which are not.

Jeff

As the Peak Mid week guys said - if you can venture to the Dark Peak you could also hook up with us lot on the Peaks Again thread:

http://www.bikemagic.com/forum/forummessages/mps/dt/1/UTN/68698/last/1/V/1/SP/

We tend to ride the same sort of stuff as the Peak Mid week guys but probably a bit slower -  none of us our particularly fit and very much have a preference for going downhill or along as opposed to uphill!

Cheers, its nice of you both to be so welcoming.

If we venture that far up I will jump on the forum and see what you guys are up too.

If we don't make it to the dark side I'll post any good rides in the white peak district we do on here and try and map them out on www.mapmyride.com

Thanks again.

The area around Blore isn't blessed with much riding apart from the Tissington Trail that's about 3km away. You can use this as a link. There is an ok ride that goes due east through the Tissington Estate, cross the ford, up Wigber Hill, Kniveton, Madge Hill, go south to Shirley, Osmaston Park, Ashbourne, Trail back to Tissington (tea shop at the Hall is nice), it's all there on OS Landranger 119, but you'll have to like nettles at this time of year.

It is a good centre for visiting other bits of the glorious Peak District though. Have a look at Vertebrate Graphics White Peak and their Dark Peak guides, lots to do. Enjoy

Thanks for the route Geoff, much appriciated.

I have now bought one of the books mentioned above which looks pretty good, but if anyone else has routes or tips for the peaks please share.
