Hi, can anyone advise me on what to do with forks that have seized? Currently got Gila T4 forks on a Specialized Hardrock Sport (unmodified hardtail). They've never had much travel on them (about 0.5"!) but have been well lubed and won't budge. Am quite happy to have them replaced. Female biker doing cross country rides mostly in Peak District. Thanks!

 whats your budget?

No budget in mind but the bike only cost £475 and I'm not doing any huge gnarly drop-offs so if I could get something half decent that would be a bit of an upgrade and get me round most stuff in the Peaks I'd be happy - say £200...

TORAS! Perfect for your budget and an all round brilliant fork albeit heavy...but I'm almost certain it would be lighter than that RST.

Great thanks - will take a look. Out of interest, how much travel would you expect to get? Half an inch sounds small by anyone's standards.
On a Hardrock you'd be looking at 100mm travel I guess. Tora's would suit - check Merlin out as they usually have some good deals on forks.

Rockshox Recons - about a pound lighter than the TORA's and a very good price at Merlin cycles at the moment: clicky

hey cathy, http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=tora+302&_sacat=See-All-Categories there you go!

Oooh I might buy a pair of those! Save the Pace Forks for race days...or just fix the Foxes...

if you are quite light, then make sure you get an air-fork - otherwise you'll be buying softer springs as well

Thanks. Had a look on ebay last night and there's loads of gorgeous black Tora 302's but some of them warn that the steerer has been cut down (seem to vary from 205mm-250mm). Any idea what a standard length would be?
Just measure your forks from the crown to the top of the stem and you will have rough idea what the minimum length you'll need.
Just measure from where your forks enter the bottom of your head tube to the top (were the cap is bolted on). For a small bike 200mm should be plenty unless you have a freakishly long head tube. PS. your previous forks that only move half an inch......is it possible they're set on lockout? cos you should expect about 80mm 3.5 inches on an average small hardtail.

Good point - will check there hasn't been a blonde moment here, but still fancy up-grading and getting disc brakes too
Once you start with new forks, disc brakes (and probably wheels as you'll need new hubs), you are better off just buying a new bike.
