I fancy a change from my xtc sx and as funds are tight was thinking maybe I could get a new frame and swap some of the parts over

I was considering

Cotic bfe

genesis altitude

dialled alpine

on one 456

anyone got any experience of any of these?

I've got a 456 fitted with a pair or Recons on the front which I use when I am back home. I find that the bike can feel a bit pedestrian when I ride it on my regular trails but as soon as the trail becomes savage in either direction the bike really comes into its own. I enjoy riding the trail centres on it for example.

I have an Altitude 853 frame and I like it a lot, as did the magazines REVIEWS  It may be up for sale soon though as I fancy the new red colour to replace my green one.

I've a 456, and run it with one of two forks (depending on what/where); a 120mm maxle reba and a talas Fox 36 150mm.  Builds vary 26-29lbs.

It works for me.

What fork are you going to be using?

I've got magura phaons at the moment 130mm

I may however do a bit of e-bay buying and selling and see if I can get something more like 140-150mm and hopefully with adjustable travel

I just fancy some more gravity oriented riding, and as I can't afford a full susser at the moment I think a long travel steely might be the way forward

If I had the cash I'd get the Cotic bfe, and get something like an Orange Alpine as I really fancy a bash at the megavalanche, but until I win the lottery....

A Stiffee if you prefer going up or a Chameleon if you prefer going down. Although neither are steel so maybe a Handjob or a Prince Albert.

Good call JJ, the handjob is an awesome descender, I'll probably buy another one day.

opening up the criteria to 100-130 mm steel hardtails and he fancies a bfe why not go for a Soul.

I was looking at that, it's a bit vague to warranty a frame to the travel of a fork, as my fox 140 talas is shorter that some 130 mm (Marzocchi & Manitiou) and only 3mm longer than 130 revelations !

My local Santa Cruz dealer who I have had a moan about before also deals in cotic and genesis bikes

I rang them saturday about buying a Alptitude frame, they took my number to get back to me, but guess what?

Still not heard

How useless can you be?

I am wanting to give them over £300 and they can't even be arsed calling me back

I find that most standard retail shops are pretty poor at ringing back, you need to go in their to get proper service, after all they are not a mail order business.
