Slightly scary! As they express the levels in vodka shots, I wonder if Russians have very low levels of heart disease?

"The study was conducted in Spain, a country with relatively high rates of alcohol consumption and low rates of coronary heart disease."  No mention of the sleep that they have in the afternoon, surely that helps reduce stress levels?

Similar to the French Paradox, but what that don't say though is that the French have very high rates of liver diseases.

Spain - also sunny climate (less stress?), Mediterranean diet and drinking like intelligent people rather than like North Europeans to blot our the misery of our semi-nocturnal existence and the related depressions.

Slightly off topic but......I went to Spain the other week and spent a lot of time in smaller, less touristy towns than I had before and they really do almost entirely shut down during siesta time.  Twas really wierd.

Try small town Scandinavia, they are shut down all the time.

For those drinking little - less than a shot of vodka a day for instance - the risk was reduced by 35%. And for thosewho drank anything from three shots to more than 11 shots each day, the risk worked out an average of 50% less.
If I drank 11 shots of vodka each day I'd be skint if nothing else!
