Marzocchi 2004

Redesigned website, full '04 details

Italian forkmeisters Marzocchi have had the digital decorators in and revamped their website. The new-look site also contains details of the 2004 range. There's not, therefore, a great deal of point us going into vast amounts of detail on the new range as it's all there. But we'll briefly run through some highlights.

The most obvious new thing is the single crown, 6in travel Z150 freeride fork (as pictured). It's Marzocchi's response to 1.5in steerer long-travel single crown forks, using a beefy steel steerer in the conventional 1-1/8in size to make the thing strong enough for all that leg. The stanchion tubes are also steel, and twin coils with air assist hold the things up. There's no weight posted on the site, but we suspect that "quite heavy" is probably about the mark...

Most of the rest of the range is familiar names on revised forks. The main changes are bigger tyre clearance, with Z1, DJ, Super T and Junior T forks now all able to take up to 2.7in tyres. The Dirt Jump forks switch to chromoly stanchions for extra strength. A welcome development is a travel boost for the more XCish forks in the range - the Marathon S coil, MX Comp ETA and MX Pro ETA will be available with 80, 100 or 120mm travel options. And the adjuster knobs have been redesigned, which is especially welcome on the ETA forks - the old bent metal microlever has been replaced with an easy-grip sturdy plastic dial.

All the new forks will be available soon from your local bike shop. UK importers Windwave should be able to point you in the direction of your nearest dealer...

Possibly most importantly, the base-model MX Comps now use coils instead of air.

You could get an MX Comp coil before. You're right, though, the air option appears to have vanished for '04. As has the non-ETA MX Pro.

The MX Comp Air is in the tech manual though, as is the Pro Air, Pro Coil, MZ series and 3 EXR forks which aren't listed on the website.

The website barfs on my Mac btw but atleast you don't have to guess the page names and enter them yourself like you did with the 2003 range.

erm, z150 isn't new. Z150 sl is new. Other thing of note is that the shiver SC has quietly had it's travel reduced to 100mm from 120mm...

and has anyone checked out the new 888's? look like THE DH fork to have next year :-)

Posted: 29/08/2003 11:58

Did they actually release the z150? It was around on many show stands and on team bikes but I don't think I ever saw one retail.

The Z150 has been out for a couple of months now, I've seen a Cove G Spot with some fitted. Look very nice with the black stanchions.

i've had a set of 150's on my giant AC for a couple of months now, very nice, very heavy.......
Posted: 29/08/2003 13:27

Yeah, I read that some people were saying that for the weight of the z150, you could get a Jr T for only a few 100g more and get more stiffnes? Personally, I reckon the z150 looks the dogs! give me one!

"There's no weight posted on the site, but we suspect that "quite heavy" is probably about the mark..."

Yeah, 7lb according to the mate of mine who's got some on his Patriot!

As for the website, good to see it being updated, just a shame you have to register for the fun stuff like the Marzocchi-girls calendar!

I wonder if this year's crappy ETA adjuster can be upgraded to the upcoming dial. I hope so...
Posted: 29/08/2003 17:13

the calendar isn't that good anyway, you wont miss out if you can't be arsed to register and fill in all their gubbinses

Never been a Marazochi fan, but these 888's may convert me..... 200mm will be the best I can get to match my 240mm at the back and they do look a bit nice ehh??? Carn't belive they only have a 6inch disc brake mount though!!!! Madness!!!

Lets go look for prices

What about the SuperMonsters: 300mm!!! Imagine having a FOOT of travel?!?!
Posted: 29/08/2003 23:33

The site is certainly a lot better.
Posted: 30/08/2003 09:01

yeah but Super Monsters had 300mm this year - the 200 on the 888's is what looks cool - may hav to sell the Super T's if I ever have any spare cash lying around!
Posted: 30/08/2003 16:04

The thing I like about them is the legs dont protrude past the axle like the monsters do. I've heard they have a tendancy to clash off things. Also if I'm right I'm led to belive they are boxxer weight 7-8 lds. Does anyone know the exact weight as I still like to do peddaly's on my steed, although this is becomming harder the more I get into DH!!!!
