Specialized Pitch

Longer travel for less money - Specialized fills a little gap in the range

Pitch Pro

£1,399 Pitch Pro

Pitch Comp

£1,199 Pitch Comp

Pitched (ha!) as the long travel bike for people on a budget, the Pitch is the latest bike to join the immensely large Specialized range of bikes. It's a 150mm rear travel chassis with a strong visual resemblance to the Enduro, but the two Pitch bikes occupy less expensive price points. With the entry-level Enduro Comp coming in at £1,699, you can see Specialized's need for a slightly more wallet-friendly option.

Specialized has done this by designing a simplified, easier-to-manufacture version of the Enduro frame and making it from less exotic materials. The bottom half looks pretty much the same, with a curvy downtube and the same rear suspension layout. The eagle-eyed will notice that the rocker is slightly different, though, with the Pitch having a slightly more linear suspension action.

The Enduro's swoopy top tube and seat tube brace is replaced by a straight (but slightly squared-off) top tube and simpler three-sided brace. The whole thing is made from Specialized's M4 aluminium.

What you don't get is Specialized's own suspension components. Up front, both bikes are propped up by RockShox Pike forks (351 on the Pro, 327 on the Comp). The Pike's been around for years but suddenly seems to have had a boost in popularity amongst product managers. Out back, you get a Fox RP2 on the Pitch Pro and an X-Fusion on the Comp.

BROWN GRIPS! What the hell were they thinking? other than that, they look alright
Posted: 22/08/2007 11:00

Where they brown,  or a horrible green colour,  real put off here to.

i agree they are pretty sick but not exatly something to not buy the bike for !!!!!

ask your lbs to change them, they will if they're worth their salt.

pitch test bikes will be few and far between probably only big chains and concept stores.

LBS has the FSR Expert ( with brain ) Demo,   didn't have a Enduro SL,  blagged a keep it clean ride though, you scratch it you buy it.

Did that with the Marin,  WTB tyres fresh with the crap on them still,  turned on the road infront of Cars and SMACK went straight down on the side, don't think they saw the damage

we have enduro test bike and will have pitch soon too !!!! cant wait to take it for it first ride and break it in......... looks great and does fill a big gap in the range

Don't think it fills a gap,  rather creates a new one for everyone else,   has anyone else got a 6inch Cheap bike ?? ( well this price area )

Ohhh 1 thing about Spesh, on the FSR Expert ( brain fade model ), DT4.1 Rims or similar, Spesh front hub looks nice and fine, rear hub DEORE, WTF ??

So close hey!!

I really, really want one...

But brown?  Specialized seem hell bent on painting their bikes some really gash colours this year.  The 29" Stumpy seems colour matched to post kebab vom and the Pitch Comp looks like it was painted by a small and colourblind child.

I've got sour grapes, my current bike (04 Enduro) is gloss black and I've spent a small fortune on matching blue bits.  Can't quite see blue/brown having the same aesthetic value!

Hey do you guys think it would be ok to put 203mm dual crown forks on a pitch? I'm thinking rockshox boxxer's here. I just think that for the price the pitch is brilliant, but i want a DH bike... any others you'd reccommend? I'm currently looking at both the Kona Stinky, and, if i can afford it, the Kona Stab. The Specialized Big Hit looks good in terms of specs but i think its REALLY ugly! The pitch is hot other than the brown grips! LOL

anyways... help would be great... Thanks

Sam

um nope, i think you'd put far too much strain on the front end doing that. Have you looked at the giant glory's going cheap paul's cycles?
Posted: 05/11/2008 23:38

whats your budget?

New Stinky for a grand:

New Glory for £1200

Oh and the Spesh Big Hit is a great bike to introduce you to DH style larking about.

Both would be pretty good for general freeride / DH and you could stick Boxxers on them no probs I reckon...

That is some price on that Glory! Worra lorra bike
Posted: 06/11/2008 09:42

Huge amount of bike for the money yep Tekk..

My parents probably wouldn't pay more that £650 (second hand of course)... I'm afraid we aren't THAT well off (ie. to be able to afford £1200) I HATE the look of the Specialized Big Hit and i like the 06-08 stinky/stab but i don't know if the stinky will be good enough! I plan to take whatever bike i get to Whistler in a few years (Gap year ) so it needs to be able to take that, even if it does mean getting new forks or whatever... if the brakes arent great thats cool cos im probably going to put my avid juicy 7's on it if the originals arent that good! I will probably upgrade the forks to Rockshox Boxxer's unless i'm more than impressed with the standard ones (although i don't think i will be), can anyone vouch for the quality/value of the stinky/stab. In an ideal world i'd get a Kona Stab Garbanzo which is what i hear the marshalls at whistler use... but they are few and far between, and they are likely to be out of my price range... £700 might be acceptable but i doubt i'd persuade my parents to pay any more... if there REALLY IS a better bike for a little more i might consider putting some money towards it if its worth the extra! Otherwise i think i will stick with the stinky and upgrade bits later... are there any bits you guys think i should upgrade specifially? Most of them on ebay have had a chain device added and i've seen a few with older boxxers (06 i think)! Cheers for the help!!!

£700 + Boxxers = £1100-£1200  + Juicys = £1300 + Chain Device £1400

I'd wait and get the Glory, it really is a much better bike even compared to the Stab.  If you cut corners now you'll spend twice as much in the long run, because you'll be upgrading for years.

I speak from experience

Once again for good measure: Brown Grips?!

You don't honestly think i'd spend £400 on Boxxers? lol flEa Bay all the way (not sure if i can actually name the popular online auction site but im sure you all know what im talking about). PLus I already have the juicys (and they cost me £180 about a year ago - and that was how much one would have been if i bought them retail). Pretty much all the stinky's on ebay HAVE chain devices already, and the upgrade to boxxers would be probably next christmas! The Giant really is out of the question! On flEa Bay the cheapest ones have a starting price at £950 and i dont honestly think my parents would be happy to pay that! They took enough persuasion to buy me my hardtail and that was only £275

The Glory is technically a freeride bike anyways hence the single crown forks and yes I know that the 09 stinky now has single crowns but thats because Kona want people to get the stab if they want a dh bike!
