Hobo Ride 8 6/12/06 Borrowdale Bash Riders - Hobo, Barry & Dave Distance - 21mls Weather - Wet & Windy
A night ride here round the Borrowdale Bash. Anyone who has ridden this in daylight will know its very testing, well at night its borderline insane at times. As barry is now lit up brighter than blackpool tower this nightriding malarky is no trouble and i must admit he nailed the route. Every techy bit he rides in daylight, he nailed in the dark, even managing 50% of the unrideable (£1million to anyone that does it ;-) acent from watendlath. Me & dave basically muddled through it. Rode/attempted most stuff but if i got the feeling something was gonna hurt or have bad consequences i reeled myself in a little. Dave was pretty much the same and his only bad fall was actually a very slow fall due to getting back on the bike. Thats not to say it wasnt extremely painfull.
This route suits a nightride in respect of shelter. It was shocking how much it kept the wind & rain off us.
In the end we arrived back at the car in 2h.45 which considering its a 2h35 day ride i think is respectable.
Route is here

We didnt do the latrigg section but barry seems keen to include it next time :-/ |

Hobo Ride 7 5/12/06 - Mabie Riders - Hobo & Charles Distance - 12mls Weather - Wet but surprisingly warm
A night ride here. Was charles first taste of 7 stanes and night riding. He was in the mood for blasting the route so off we went. He was doing fine untill he took a berm/turn a little to fast and ended up in the brambles. A cut chin & ear later he set off again. No issues untill the waymarked Bad Step. I warned him about it (Easily within his ability) and made sure i did it first. He got off just at the top then somehow decided to get back on half way down. He had no momentum and when he got to the last drop bit he went over the bars. He did the superman dismount so landed fully on his chest but the painfull part was he slapped his palm on a rock and it was extremely swollen. He will learn.
Other than that, it was an excellent ride and as i hadnt done a ride without the extra football before it for a couple of weeks i felt very strong.

Hobo Ride 6 26/11/06 Riders - Hobo, Barry & The Woolybacks Distance - 25mls Weather - Wet but surprisingly warm
This was a lovely ride which managed to encompass all that is good about the area. Techy rocky sections, mud baths, rooty climbs etc etc. Because it was such a spread of abilities you could choose how to ride. Blast a section, have a chat on another etc etc. Very relaxed ride.

Been a little lacking in content lately but have been doing some excellent rides. Surprising how good the riding gets when the weather gets worse :-)
Hobo Ride 5 22/11/06 Riders - Hobo, Saintly, Dave, Barry Shim & Charles Distance - 12mls Weather - GRIM!!!
Dont be fooled by the distance, this was a there & back. 6mls uphill then 6mls down. The weather didnt help and tbh we all ended up very strung out on the climb up. Very civilised chat in Greggs Hut then a BLAST back down. I havent got it mapped out but i would be very surprised if we werent reaching 30mph on the way down. Thankfully it was uneventfull with no crashes. |
