After closer inspection the chain rings are slightly distorted, its move evident now that I've clamped it into a workstand. I'll have to do some surfing and order a few new bits from one of the above links. Then I can hopefully get this thing on the road.....

Hi

I've recently inherited a "well used" Saracen Morzaine which I'd hoped to be riding into work tomorow morning, unfortunately after tinkering all weekend it wont be the case. The two chainrings have seen a fair amount of mileage and and I can't get a smooth bite. Having to replace the said rings will it also mean replacing chain and/or rear cassette? I've always changed the cassette when the chain has worn out on my double bouncer but I've been lucky enough never having to replace anything on the chain ring end.

If this is the case where would be a good place to start looking on the net for road bike spares etc?

Any advice would be appreciated!

If you want to keep the cost down (and you're not wearing knee & shins etc) you cant go far wrong with the old Ron Hill Tracksters. I use these through out the cold months especially when cycling to/ from work, and if the mood takes me and I run for a change they do the business in both respects.

My "personal trainer" missus usually rips me for wearing them due to the 1980's look, but who cares, I ain't too fussy when they're at credit crunch prices!

Check out ebay its usually flooded with them in all sizes, and its generally cheaper than using companies like sportsshoes.com etc

If you're gonna buy a big item its worth travelling there in person (if possible), saw their advert for a Dawg Primo '06 reg at a grand, jumped in the car travelled for 2 hours & found myself looking at a very large warehouse in the middle of a very large industrial estate in Wigan.

After hanging about for 40 minutes waiting for the staff to assemble my new wheels (they seem to think I was arriving PM not AM as I'd explained over the phone the previous day) in their limited upstairs show room, out came my bike.

Very happy with the bike and 8 months later its still going strong, hand on heart though if I was ordering niff naff it'd be CRC or Merlin everytime.
