| Also, I think if the Giants stand up to the abuse given out as hire bikes for Glentress then they will stand quite a lot of serious offroading. |

I was thinking about the Terrago FS1. the only difference being the MPH disk brakes. The spec on the gringo ain't that good, and to be honest i wouldn't say the frame is any better either. at this price the difference between a 7005 frame and a 6061 isn't going to notice really.
the geometry is similar, sizing as I said a bit odd for the Giants, but it makes for a very chuckable bike, something I always found with my E3 and E4. so If you want a good bike and ain't bothered about fashion too much get the Giant, or pay £100 extra for slightly lower spec different decals and a 'funky' paint job. Paul, I totally agree, Merlin are doing some sweet bikes and the build your own options are great if you know where you want to skimp, but again it comes down to fashion. |

personally I'd go for the Giant, not bad weight wise, and if it's the same Terragos they use @ Glentress then they'll stick a load of abuse and have full hydraulic disk brakes that actually stop you! watch out for the sizing though, they tend to be a little odd. I also find Oranges overpriced for what they are. Giant are one of the largest bike manufacturer in the world, enabling them to spec the bikes highly for the price, wheras the likes of Orange have to buy frames from the likes of Giant and price them up. needless to say the spec will suffer.
I cannot comment on the Dawes as I've no experience of their recent bikes. |

| If it's totally shafted, I think Stronglight and Mavic still do BB's that don't actually use the threads in the BB shell, but kinda tighten down on the BB shell faces. |
