I work on alot of Juicy brakes at work...as a bike mechanic

we ditched the official Avid bleed method along time back, as it often leaves the brakes "soft"

we use the syringe as normal at the caliper end, and at the brake lever end just use the hose and red screw-in fitting (to screw the hose into the brake lever bleed port) and then run the hose into a catch bottle (like with Hayes)

as long as you degass the fluid in the syringe, you always get a super firm bleed with no air, and its much quicker than f*cking about as with the "official" method

just make sure, before bleeding, that the pad contact adjuster is fully wound out, and the pistons are fully seated to allow max. take-up of fluid

if you find your brakes still a little "soft" (i.e. no air, but not enough fluid) try rotating the brake lever clamp to horizontal, remove the bleed plug, drip some DOT in there until it overflows, reinstall bleed plug, pump brakes couple of times and repeat if necessary

this extra step introduces an extra volume of fluid into the system and provides a very firm feeling brake

After serious discussions with the power-that-be and sponsors, we have decided to postpone the April 10th Jam in favour of a date later in the Summer.

The early date was originally set as US Pro riders from Specialized were due to attend the Bike Show, and were to come to Esher to demo the following week.

This early date has put a huge amount of pressure on the Freeride trail builders to try and get as far through the build schedule as possible before the weekend of the Jam.

We just found out today the US Pros are not coming to the Bike Show so won't be available for the Esher Jam either...this gave us the opportunity to move the Jam to later in the year and give the trail builders the time they need.

This is on the back of real concerns from the Dirt Jump crew about getting rideable trails ready in time for the Jam

The new Roll-in tower was only built at the weekend, and allowed the first test session, which (as with many new trails) showed some serious changes need to be made which will take longer than the time before the Jam.

In addition, the spate of freezing weather a short time back did serious disruption to the Esher Shore build schedule, with many wet nights preventing the use of floodlighting to extend the evening build time.

The trails builders simply do not have enough time to build and open the trails that we wanted to have to handle the increased numbers of riders we expected for the Jam.

The high numbers of riders using the trails at the moment means that extra maintenance is taking time away from the new construction work, we are soon getting extra volunteer help from old friends which will be a good boost.

We'd rather have the trails all done and tested instead of holding the Jam in a half-finished park, and without the Dirt Jump park being open at all

The Jam is not dropped, but being postponed until a date in the mid summer - to be confirmed here very soon.

We'd rather have the Jam when the park is all built and tested, and when we have a much better chance of good weather than "April showers"....

please spread the word if you have any buddies due to ride at the Jam

Despite the postponement, Esher Shore is open to ride as usual, and new trails "Lower Earth" and "Stuntmaster" should be fully open to the bottom of the park in the very near future. www.eshershore.com (due to be updated)
