Yep. It'll definitely get easier. You'll get fitter and faster by the day.
Concentrate on getting road and wind resistance down by using slicks, carrying luggage on_the_bike in a rack pack in the dead air behind the saddle, not in panniers and not strapped sweatily to your good self - and don't wear flappy clothes.
I reckon after a month you'll get the 45 mins down to 35 if you keep at it. I reckon on 50 mins one way (uphill) and 45 mins the other for my 12 miles each way. I use a short-wheelbase touring bike, 23mm tyres, rackpack, proper road cycling kit. Keeping a log of your time and speed can help (and make it more interesting). |

| I'm still trying to work out what prompted the idiot plod to send out this message. I spent most of yesterday on country lanes in Hertfordshire, and didn't come across much bad behaviour among any road users (except a few of motorists who seemed determined to have head-ons with each other- evolution in action, I call it). |
