I've got that pivot bolt sorted now - it is now a beautifully grim anodized purple SRP replacement bolt obtained from the LBS, went in first time with no problems.
After stripping the mech as far as it will go, cleaning and regreasing everything, and some further messing with the limit screw, shifting is now acceptable.
New chain, cassette and rings will be able to wait :)
Any recommendations on replacement 4-bolt rings? Value and durability are main concerns. Granny is steel and wont be replaced.
I'm still a little puzzled about the fact that the cage doesn't run straigh front to rear or top to bottom. The cage isn't bent, the plane of the cage pivot just seems to be weird.
I dont know, I reckon there are quite a lot of FS bikes that look good, but then I guess I look at things from an engineering point of view more than an artisitic one, so I see a design that's very clever or an elegant solution it looks good in a techy kind of way. The PRST-1 almost falls into that category but not quite... it's just a bit too bulgy looking in the wrong places.
Ah, Will, I hadn't realised you FSR was an XC, I'm not 100% sure whether the TR-1 will fit. I think it will, though. The TR-1 doesn't seem to be included in their fit wizard unfortunately.
