| You shouldn't use the small chainring with the small sprocket. Due to the alignment of the chain you'll get it rubbing and the chain will wear very fast. |

Steve you can convert using a quill to a-head converter and a new a-head stem. Make sure you buy a stem that fits the diameter of your old bars or you'll need to splash out on bars as well.
You'll probably also need some headset spacers but which size or how many depends on the height you like your bars.

| I'm 62cm and the only helmets I've ever got to fit my head are Giro ones. I'm currently using a Torrero L/XL that goes up to 64cm but unfortunately they don't make them any longer. |

There are a lot of cycle training courses run by local authorities even for adult complete beginners throughout the country.
Try entering the keywords "cycle training" into a search engine and you should be able to find something close to where you stay. |
