Catch up in a week or so.
Cheers

I first went in 1996. Little Ian was one of the guides. Went back following year and I think Dave was guiding, ( both chalet holidays). Went again in 2001 and did the three countries. Early in the season so there was still a lot of snow which made it tougher. Brilliant though. Doing the chalet again this year as we're not as fit as we used to be ( and we're all in our 50's now). Wonder how long Phil can keep up the pace as he's getting on a bit now? ( sorry Phil if you're reading this). Just looked at the MbMb photos, I guess you are Martin Hills 2005. What bike you riding? Looks like a 'dale raven in 1 photo?

Thanks everyone. What Martin Shaw 2 says makes lot of sense with the way the bike feels now. We'll give it a try. We're going with Mont Blanc Mountain Bikes. This is my 4th time. They are a brilliant small proper MTB company, and the first in the Alps. Highly recommended.

I have my chain just long enough that it will run big chainring to big sprocket without ripping off the rear mech. You shouldn't ride big to big as it puts a lot of sideways strain on everything, but it's nice to know it will survive if you go big to big by mistake. any longer than this and there will be too much slack for the rear mech to cope with when riding any where near small to small. Which you shouldn't do for the same reason. So wrap round big to big plus 2/3 links seems about right.
If the drive chain is newish, (less than a few hundred miles) it should not slip. You sure it's not the freewheel about to fail ?
