| Tekk you're so right...I too bought a cheap pair from Wiggle and they had the same twisted effect. It's weirdest when I take them off and suddenly feel about two foot shorter and on a completely different bike... The other factor is that the frames get in the way when I'm on my road bike (yes yes, wrong forum I know) - but when I'm on the drop handlebars the top of the frame is exactly in my field of vision so I have to tilt my head further back than is comfortable and look up over the frames, which gives me a cricked neck and headache within about five minutes. Bad design! |

Well done Richard - heroic stuff. Totally agree with Neil's comments too. Slightly alarmed to hear about the larey sheep though - that's never happened to me. I'll approach them with renewed respect from now on. |

You suggested that I thought that the 'news' appeared in the wrong place, it didn't. I only took exception when someone posted it into the beginners part of the forum. I'm bored of hearing about the SDD rides, it's old news. If Mike D wants to report it on the site then fine. When it gets into the froum then it's fair game IMO.I'm not trying to take anything away from Ian, I'm sure he rode very well. I'm just not that impressed by it anymore. OK understood, still not feeling particularly silly though TBH. It's obviously entirely up to you how you react to the news of a new SDD record, but it's hardly old news is it? It is by definition new news cos no one's ever done it faster. And if the mention of that news on the forum is fair game for you then I would say your uncharitable remarks (you did make your point several times after all) were equally fair game, no? But I was rather rude and there was no need for that, so I'm sorry I called you a special kind of knob and I will now make a graceful retreat from this discussion. Life's too short for flame wars - there's riding to be done! |

Welcome back Humbert. PM Mike Davis and he'll probably be able to remind you of your old login. This place has changed quite a lot but it's still a forum where you can speak your mind so long as you're prepared to take on all comers in defending your corner. Thanks John, I'll do as you suggest. Quite happy to engage in debate - and might even try to do it a bit more politely next time. You have to be a special kind of knob to pour scorn on this kind of achievement if you ask me, and using the fact that the news appeared in the wrong place on the site to explain your dreary negativity is just sad. Ian, many congratulations on an amazing ride and an inspiring write-up.
Get your facts right humbert. You just look a little silly right now.
Did I get some facts wrong? Sorry if I steamed in too vigorously Mike but your comments just seemed so dreadfully negative when it would have been so easy to simply ignore the thread. Whatever you say, Ian's was an amazing achievement. |

You have to be a special kind of knob to join a forum just to insult someone you don't know for expressing an opinion you don't share.
fair point I suppose, except I didn't just join, I just rejoined cos I've forgotten my log-in details.
Perhaps I could have phrased my point rather more politely - but the point stands. Perhaps Mike's rudeness rubbed off on me... |
