It may be a bit 11th hour but if you are looking for something to do this weekend, head to Relentless. The course is fantastic whatever the weather and the No Fuss team run some of the best endurance races in the country. Highly recommended!
Top job Richard. It's one thing doing a ride like that knowing you will make it, but another thing entirely to take something on that you don't know you can complete before you start. Well done!
I may be wrong; it may have been done before in one hit and unsupported but I have found no evidence in my research to date.... accounts of sub 20 hour times have so far appeared to be hybrids / adaptations of Woodcock's full route (or included very different routes ending at Sunderland, for example). I'm not claiming my time was 'fast'. Of course 210 miles in 28.5 hours is a very low average speed. But the key determining factor was the wind direction - a strong South Easterly and in my face all the way. Factor in some hefty periods of heavy rain and some stretches of very soft ground I'm really pleased with my ride. In fact it couldn't have gone better. I'll be back to hopefully break the magic 24hrs when conditions are more conducive.
Error on my part I'm afraid... I put a bottle of chain lube next to the tracker in my bag... and turned it off by accident! Doh! Only realised at Shap.
Thanks to all who have shown interest in this. It's pretty humbling.
Let's get out there and enjoy the awesome riding we have in the UK!
