Hi all! I was having a chat with a couple of other semi-keen cyclists last weekend and we thought of an idea I'd like to test with you. Would it be a good idea to close certain paths/roads of Hyde Park off for cyclists only, over the summer, on particular days/hours. Perhaps closing Saturday 10am to 4pm for June and July. We'd be allowed to cycle the main road that crosses the serpentine, and then either loop around hyde park (take the north road, then the path down to the south road), or we'd loop around kensington gardens - north path, then the broad walk or whatever it's called, and then through the trees on the south side). Benefits 1) an opportunity for people who have bikes in London but are too scared to use them to actually get on them in a completely safe environment, and hopefully build up enough courage (over a few weeks) to get on the road and use them for fitness/commuting whatever. 2) Building off (1), more people using bikes so creating less pollution and stress on the public transport system 3) Potentially some kind of trade stands area for local bike shops to rent bikes or allow try and buy sessions Anyway, one way for us to kick this off would be to do an online petition on the no.10 website - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ So - what are your thoughts? a) Completely crazy idea and let's kill it now b) Great idea let's start the petition c) Not a bad idea - this is how it could be improved Let me know! Cheers! |
