Raises some very interesting points about the Brit attitude to cyclists on the roads as well as telling a sad story.

It speaks for itself...great writing IMHO

Well I've had mine for a month now fully built up with LX/XT drivetrain, Recently Mojo'd Talas 125mm forks, old school Hope Minis and otherwise Easton/Bonty kit.

In a word I genuinely wonder if I'll ever ride my full suss again.

By way of background I have been a keen MTBer since 1990. The Inbred is my 7th Mountain bike and like many 'long in the tooth riders' have gone from steel , to Alu, to Zirconium Alloy and now back to steel (by way of blinged up Marin Full Sus).

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, the 456 is an outstanding piece of kit. Comfortable to ride, tough as hell and absolutely flys. As Mr Worland states in his review you could ride this bike for a long time without ever realising how good it really is. Push it hard, and harder still, and it performs flawlessly. Hit the steep stuff and it all makes sense. No slouch on the climbs.

Yes I own one, so yes I suppose I biased. But I know my bikes, and this one is a classic. Buy it and I guarantee you will not regret it.

Been mulling it over for a while now but I live is a very multi ethnic city, in one of the most multi ethnic countries in the world. So why when I'm out on the trails or at events do I rarely if 'ever' see black or asian blokes riding? (I can think of 2 occasions in 15yrs FFS!!!)

Is MTB'ing exclusively a 'white' activity if so why?

Be genuinely interested to hear your point of view.

Anecdotal evidence encouraged.

P.S Just bought my self an One One 456 and am building it, think it's a mid-life..is full suss always a good thing...crisis. Yippeeeeee

Well I started this thread so I just thought I'd return and log up No:80.

Seems that the quality of the debate has raised considerably since I was last here (sorry work got in the way DAMN!)

With the Pentagon last week very stealthily reporting that the Iraq Army now has ZERO brigades of operationally effective soldiers it seems that the monumental failure of this venture is beginning to dawn.

So what are the options 3 years after the start of the occupation (well on 20th March).

1/ Pullout compleatly and hope that the civil war does not spill over into Iran etc.

2/ Put the necessary resources on the ground to 'effectively' police the country and provide the much needed protection of the civilian population and the so far non-existant reconstruction. Another 40,000 from us and another 100,000 from the US should just about do it. Bear in mind for every combat soldier there are 2-3 logistics/administrative/medical/ soldiers so 100,000 troops actually provides 30,000 on the streets (Not many eh?)

3/ Hand it over to the UN and say "we broke it you fix it".

Answer...what a collection of shit choices!

Actual decision....to hang on for grim death and hope it does not get too out of hand and that too many of our boys and girls don't get killed and maimed.

Tony Blair made the most catastrophic choice of his career when he hitched our horse to the US neo-conservative wagon.

Just ask yourself this "how many of the Hijackers on 9/11 were from Iraq" ZERO. How many from Saudi...err 16 or so?

Hmmm...how come we ain't in Saudi?
