Cheers Chaps,

I ended up doing as Tim says, it wasn't overly exciting but I managed to include a few bike shops on route to stare at shiny things. Tried exploring a bit too, but that just lead to lots of on road stuff, or deadends.

Monkey - Those are sort of my local routes, least they were local a few years ago when I was at Sheffield uni. I would happily have done them again, if I'd thought about it. I've done the full twogates one once, quite a trek. Would have thought cutgate was a bit soft under foot (or wheel) at the moment.

Sad Bloke - I really can't remember which one it was, I don't tend to have any particular allegiance, just pickup the one with the most interesting articles conveyed from the front cover. I'd have guessed at it being MBR, it was an article about four rides that could be reached by train (one of which was Edale/Hope), included maps and everything.

Oh well, up in Newcastle visiting GF's parents next weekend, wonder if I can fit a ride in there..........

Damn, pooh, blast, nuts!!!

I've lost the bike magazine, the one from a few months back that listed 4 rides that were accessible by train, and they sounded good.

The girlfriend waits till tonight to tell me I'm free tomorrow (she's off shoe shopping or something, seriously), but she needs the car. I need to do a whole days ride and preferably somewhere I've not done before.

At least two of the magazine rides would have fit the bill perfectly, but sadly I've put it somewhere it won't get lost, or found as it turns out.

I'm pretty sure I'll just have to resort to some local, seen it all before hills now. Unless anyone's got any great suggestions that they can tell me about in the next hour or so? (I live in Huddersfield W.yorkshire)

Supposedly my frame has been faced (though perhaps it hasn't been done properly) and I've been through shimano, race face and some after market only bearing replacement things.

See the other threads on here. seems to be bout 50/50 for people finding the external bearings are complete shite and those that think they are fine.

Still better odds than ISIS....

I moved to HT2 after having no end of issues with several ISIS bb's at different price points. The HT2's have lasted slightly longer but not significantly so, even after trying an after market set of bearings.

I've read around and know I'm not the only one with this issue.

I don't jet wash my bike and do reasonably regular maintenace.

I'm seriously considering going to square taper. I don't think I've really had one since doing mountain biking but it's the only type left to try I think.
