I know blokes that have been riding for years & still no feck all about tyres & why worry about all the silly tyre questions when most mtb forum content is plain stupid anyway...

I ride a large at 6'1" ,so I'd say at 5'10" a medium should be purrrfect for you.

Like mine,it hasn't changed my life but I like it all the same.On some terrain it's quicker & on others it's slower than a 26"....
