Mike

I went through the same dilema about shipping my bike! Some b**tard nicked my bike 2 months before I flew out so that kinda made my decision for me! Trouble is I got my insurance money from the UK but now I'm here the money is being rapidly eaten up by my wife buying furniture for our new house, and the kids discovering new hobbies like Kayaking and Pets - they have still got their bikes.

As far as new bikes go over here I am looking to get a new Stumpy FSR Comp, it retails for NZ$4000. Current exchange makes that about £1500 so nothing in it really.

The difference is the amount of choice - but I have had no problem lining up test rides on Specialized, Giant, Jamis and Kona. Customs can get a bit picky importing bikes due to the bio-hazard risk - so easier to buy a new one here then your warranty is easy to use!

Mark I'm here for good mate!
Got my permanent residence and a cool job so life is great. I met a Kiwi today who rides most weekends and races so he has offered to take me up to Makara Peak. I'll check out deliverence!

Let me know when you get here - we can hook up for a ride, I should know my way around by then.

Congratulations Mike

Hope you settle in OK. We got here 4 weeks ago and have not looked back. A half hour ride into work, to sit in an office with a view of Wellington Harbour beats a 2 hour commute on the M3 and M25 any day.

Don't want to go on too much about how good it is here or everyone will want to come!

Not been on the forum for ages - but now permanently moved to NZ and looking forard to getting some riding in.

My bike is somewhere in a container on the high seas so will have to wait a while to hit the steep trails - bit harder than the South Downs around here!

Any one in the UK who has any contacts down here for ride info etc? Would be great to hear from anyone who has sampled the local Wellington Trails.

Cheers

Gary - good to hear some news about the riding in NZ. I am currently travelling the North Island and will get to Wellington early next week. On a months holiday getting sorted for our (me, wife and 3 kids) permanent move to Wellington by the end of February. When I've got a bit more time I'll drop you an email for some route advice.

First job is to look into either buying a new bike here or when back in the UK? Also will the terrain be better suited by a Giant VT or a Spesh FSR 120. Advice greatly appreciated!

Happy riding Down Under.
