Next time start at the top, go the other way (thats down for the hard of thinking) and ride a bike that weighs 40lb and has 8" of travel front and rear. Get some twatoos drink some euro lager from a bottle and marvel at just how hard you are. Eat pies as further training and don't forget 'No Fear Downhilling' on the Playstation just to keep your reflexes up. Once your confidence levels have improved sufficiently you coul even try this off-road. The final installment involves being featured in MBUK but the secret is getting far enough up the Editors arse to get you picture in. The genuinely fit and talented need not apply. |

Thought I'd build up a singlespeed for some mucking around type fun. Is it worth it or am I going to be wasting my time, money, knees etc? Feedback from the genuinely experienced perleez. |

I was very impressed with Madison's reply. Not !!!. Are they implying that there aren't any real MTBers in the UK? Haven't ridden in Wales,or Scotland have we?? Take a read of their reply once again and see if you can detect the arrogance that Madison is famous for. As an ex (thankfully) bike shop employee who had to deal with these tossers on a daily basis, take it from me that the ONLY thing that matters to them is parting you from your cash. You'll take what is offered or lump it.
Our only way forward is to mount an anti-Shimano campaign and stop buying the stuff. If we want eight speed (I do) buy Sram, and e-mail them to tell them what you think. Then e-mail Shimano to tell them what you think.
Sram provides a usable alternative to Shi*maNO and could clean up if they listen to what people want. They have come on leaps and bounds but need to do more development work with people that use and abuse this stuff. I get the impression that they are a company that is adaptable and up for change if there is a need. TRY THIS FOR SIZE:- A CHOICE OF 8 OR 9 SPEED CHOICE OF SHIFTERS (TWIST, THUMB OR RAPID) LESS PLASTICKY PART (MECHS) IMPROVE DURABILITY REDUCE WEIGHT
After all these years Shi*maNO still can't make a chain that can hold together or fixed without special parts. Get your feet back on the ground and give REAL bike riders what THEY want. Don't change things that work just for changes sake - it drives us maaaaaad. |

Chain Reaction are doing it very well. The reasons being:- 1)Helpful knowledgeable staff 2)Loadsa stock 3)Very competitve prices 4)No postage charge 5)Prompt delivery every time, eg:- I ordered 2xXT cassettes & 2x chains 2:30pm and they arrived the NEXT day. How did they do that? And if they haven't got it in they WILL tell you.
Mail order companies need to have good stock levels and quick delivery, combined with competitive prices. Chain Reaction lead the way. Other mail order outlets take note! |
