Thx Nick, and I could'nt agree more on the shorts issue, It must be 10 years since buying my Nalini shorts, about £30 then !!, still look fantastic, but the pad is flat, well flat, I wonder if any one fits new chamois at a sensible cost.
Thx, Guys for all the ideas and info, it's really amazing how many of us have suffered saddle problems.
I've just tried new shorts, with a good depth chamois,it helped but more pain to sit bones again at about 20 miles, it does not matter if I've been on tarmac or bumpy old lines, the trouble starts at about the same distance, my current Selle max flite is 155mm wide, I wonder if it could be too wide, I may look for something narrower this time.
Everything I look at either seems rock hard or far too soft, I guess the weight of firm gel at 20 - 25 mm deep may just be too heavy, it does seem to be the firm but deep sector what is sadly lacking, the saddles with the localised gel pads are great if you are lucky enough to have a perfectly matching butt structure. Thanks, for the links, the Bel air chromo looks terrific value, must add to the short list.
Hi All, Well, of course it's impossible to recommend a saddle for my back end. But given the following info, is there anything I should try and look at.
I have owned both a Koobi PRS and Selle max flite gel flow (this year), both nice saddles but got damn hard after about 25 miles, my sit bones feel tender for about 48 hrs after a ride, the selle was the better of the two, it just lacked depth of gel (i think). So far I seem to like saddles about 144 - 155 mm wide X 275-ish long, I had a Liberator gel a couple of years back and it was great for a while, until it got too soft, too quick!!. I looked at a Specialized Rival a few days back, and liked the deep but firm gel, but at £50 it's a gamble, because I cannot try before buying, I must have a gel or foam base of about 25mm deep because of my boney arse, I don't want a saddle which is too heavy, sub 350 grams would be fine. I live in a flat area so most of my cycling is on the flat, 50/50 road/offroad. So far I've found the hole/channels to be useful, and they have helped to cure my numb nutz problem.
Hi, Why not try the Element Spar-Q forks, just as good as the pace offerings, light and strong and better value at £139, have both disc and v brake mounts, had mine for 6 monthes and had no probs, got my bike down to sub 22lb,Great
