| 'GOOD AS FAR AS IT GOES' | | Strengths: 2.4W lamp is a very good light for on-road in town. Quite a wide spread for those darker moments in parks or on cycle paths. 10W lamp (it has a spot beam) bright enough for tarmac country roads and lights up road signs from 500m. Great in town for alerting motorists approaching on the wrong side of the road to your presence (although this may cause damage to their tyrewalls if they swerve into the kerb). Combination of 2.4W + 10W gives both wide spread, as far as verges, and spot lighting up road signs at a distance on dark country roads. Haven't tried it off-road, but should be useful. Battery lasts long enough for a week of 10-mile commutes if you don't use the 10W lamp often. Seems to be waterproof so far (after two winters). | | Weaknesses: Spot beam can dazzle oncoming travellers (especially other cyclists on narrow paths). Battery doesn't last long enough for an overnight ride - life somewhere between 2h and 5h, depending on how much the 10W lamp is used. Connector between battery and lamps can become temperamental over time.
| | Overall: A good system for commuting and short rides after dark. Not really up to overnight rides or Audax. |
