Strengths: Easy to clip in and out. Mud, what mud? Nice platform when not clipped in. Float when clipped up might be preferable for those of us with doggy knees!
Weaknesses: Way under engineered bearing system for such a heavy platform!
Overall: Great operational system let down by detailing. As with all good design, the small things do add up over time. Worth a try, especially if you ride in the middy areas of the UK, well, most areas then! For those who want a greater grip, the new Mallet has pins on the edge of the platform a la flat pedals.
Strengths: No hassle, easy replacement and adapter for every manufacturer of deraileurs. The purple ones were all my LBS sold.
Weaknesses: None so far
Overall: As said abovem get the purple, stainless version. Easy to fit, sealed bearings, just like XTR but for £11 as opposed to £24 from Shimano - go figure?
Strengths: Simple design - less to go wrong A noticeable improvement to your shifting A fit and forget part - always a good thing in my book.
Weaknesses: Can seem pricey for what looks like a glorified plastic wheel. Incidently, I picked mine up at last year's cycle show, £4 - bargin! As one of the posters quoted above - the plastic "ball" is very easy to lose when you come to install it or replace your rear gear cable.
Overall: One of those things where your thinking - it surely can't make that much difference. Take the plunge, your kick yourself for not buying one sooner.
Strengths: Excellent sweat absorbtion. Does a multitude of things. The best of ideas are the simplest. Takes up next to no room in the camelback, if your not wearing it.
Weaknesses: Some designs are a little off the wall
Weaknesses: What if I only want one LED on?? Poor designed velcro fastenings. Battery pack/Neoprene assy is a joke-flops around and that's on the road.
Overall: I boought this from my LBS, instead of on Ebay. For the money, looks like Cateye spent their development time on the LED assy with the switch/battery pack being an after thought! Any chance of running just one LED, not both. I wanted a light system for communting and off road work, so I gave it a try. After 2 weeks of the poor battery pack attachment, I got my money back.
