Specialized Fortress Glove
Posted: 31/08/07
'PROTECTION AND LIGHT WEIGHT'
Strengths:
Not hurt my hands, even when hospitalising my self with a broken wrist (above the glove...).
Weaknesses:
Rainproof, but not waterproof.
Overall:
Glove that I bought for an uplift day, and have ended up wearing for everything from ride-outs to xc races. I like them.

Gore Bike Wear Phantom Plus Jersey
Posted: 31/08/07
'BEST BIT OF CLOTHING EVER BOUGHT'
Strengths:
Can be worn -5c to 30c, with only a very thin under for additional wicking.
Very windproof, and rainproof if needed.
The sleeves zip off when it warms up.
Weaknesses:
None, even the price which seems stiff at first feels good value once I've added up the performance/wearings.
Overall:
The long sleeve version is so good, I also bought the short sleeved version (which is thinner), for summer rides.

Shimano MT90 MTB Boot

'TOTAL PROTECTION, TOASTIE AND WATERPROOF AS WELL - PERFECT'
Strengths:
Protection, waterproof, warm (and cool in summer), able to walk and grip when having to push the bike.
Weaknesses:
Weight, over race shoes.
Overall:
These boots have ensured that I've never hurt my ankle/feet in any crash. They are also waterproof and very warm.

They grip for walking and the SPD's grip the pedal (as you'd expect).

Would I buy another pair (if stolen/lost, as I can't imagine wearing them out), yes.

Specialized Instinct Helmet

'DOES THE JOB'
Strengths:
Protection and price (first one £50, second one £33 - for a blue one!)
Weaknesses:
Visor is low
Overall:
I've just replaced my first one with another. The first enabled me to survive a crash (25 mph downhill onto rocks); it took a beating and just broke the visor and a long 'crease' down one side. I smashed my wrist, cracked ribs, opened up my leg, dislocated shoulder etc.

I didn't get a headache either.
