Strengths: Does everything well. Very competent suspension action assisted by excellent rear shock. Propedal really does work - can't imagine ever using the lockout in fact. Flicking to fully open for descents gives a superb ride - best of both worlds. Finishing kit is fine including Spesh's own stuff. I even like the tyres, though some folk don't. Even has bottle cage mounts in the right place : )
Weaknesses: Like the magazine reviews state, the bottom bracket is too low and I do clobber pedals (and occasionally chain ring) when climbing up rocky sections. In fact the whole back end of the bike feels a bit low. The '05 120 FSR is higher I believe. Triad shock is great but finding that lever in a hurry isn't easy.
Overall: Top bike.
Moved up to this bike from a '98 Mount Vision. Didn't want a modern MV because I just wanted a change and always fancied trying a Horst Linkage bike.
Considered a Whyte 46 but didn't want to spend that much on just one bike so bought this and a Malt2 instead...
Overall I love it - it has so far coped well with Edale, Afan & Cwm Carn and when my local horse ruined trails bake dry then it will be ideal here too.
Whether or not the pedal bashing eventually puts me off remains to be seen.
Strengths: Much, much, nicer than Lycra. Tough, snow/sleet/slush/mud proof (today), adjustable waist so (mine) don't slide down. Nothing falls out of the pockets. Legs don't catch on chain. Great in the pub.
Weaknesses: More wind drag , but you knew that.
Overall: Just the job to not look like Rudolph Nureyev. ...and they're cheap.
