| 'LOOK NO FURTHER- YOU WANT THESE!' | | Strengths: Ease of use: Clipping in is easy and positive, and clipping out is easier! Smooth action, and adjustable release angle. 4-sided too so theres no pedal-flipping. The tension is just right, with no annoying waggle that my old Shimano 515s had when if you had them too loose. If you're going clipped in for the first time, I'd seriously recommend these over and inexpensive shimano pair... and I'm actually a shimano fan!
Mud clearing: They quite simply don't clog. Nowhere for it to collect, quite simply not an issue.
Nothing to break: Unless you ride these really, really hard for a long time, they'll just work. The cleats are softer than the pedal so they wear while the pedal lasts forever, but theyre only £15 and should last a year, depending on how much you ride. These don't rust either, unlike the chrome ones.
The packaging! Mamma mia!: They come in an excellent satin-finish box, packed in cut foam, even the instructions are printed on 100gsm paper and in colour! Makes you really feel appreciated as a customer. Kinda like the bag that howies t-shirts come in, they just make you want to buy something else to say thanks.
Everything you need: Shims (need more? they'll send you some free), FOUR spare bolts, grease cap... and most crucially, a sticker.
Weight: these are seriously light (or so I'm told). I generally don't care what things weigh if they work well, so this is just a bonus for me. But, if thats your thing, then it makes it all worthwhile! | | Weaknesses: Cost: I still find £100 for a pair of pedals a bit excessive. Mine were a present, but if you shop around you can have them for £70 or perhaps a little less. Still, if these are the most expensive bits of your bike, they'll still be worth it. | | Overall: A truly excellent product. I came from low-end SPDs and I'll never go back. So easy to use, my (flat pedalled) mates borrowed my shoes and were hopping about in minutes.
If you're wondering about shoes too, my Specialized comp MTB's (04) work well with the pedals- the tread is an exact fit so the pedal supports the tread.
You'll need to trust me that I'm not normally so effusive about anything... but these are just exceptional. |
