Trek Alloy 2 child trailer
Posted: 26/01/03
'A GOOD BUY FOR THE PRICE'
Strengths:
Light weight strong and easily collapsible, this includes the wheels and tow arm which are both removable. Plastic front cover for winter months and a fly screen for the summer. Good chain stay fixing clamp but needs careful adjustment. There is a useful storage compartment at the back of the trailer. Very stable with a wide track, it can easily go up and down kerbs whilst being towed.
Weaknesses:
The trailer is light and so has no solid floor which can be tricky when children getting in. The material splits where it rubs on the outside of the alloy flame, it should have rubbing strips. Needs more straps and clips to attach rear lights.
Overall:
I used this trailer 40 weeks a year for 2 and half years. 2/3 of that time it had two children in. This was for a school run in the evenings in all kinds of weather. The kids were well protected from the elements even if it did get steamed up on cold wet winter nights! This trailer was probably the wrong one to buy for the amount of use I put it through, but it stood up to it well and never let us down.
I sold for £60 (but it was very battered)
This is a very good trailer for the money.

'HT top of the range Diamondack XC race bike'
Strengths:
A light weight XC bike with excellent equipment, low profile riding position set up, 22 1/2" TT on 18" frame, with
6 1/2" 0 degree rise stem, and flat bars. The overall weight is 22Lbs. Very good steel frame with wish bone rear, and disc fittings.
Weaknesses:
The forks are light but could be improved, XTR front mech came apart after 3months - replaced FOC by the shop.
Overall:
All of the strengths above can be seen as a weakness if you do not want an out and out XC race bike.
I did buy this bike for half price from a local shop, and would not of thought about buying it for the full price.
I have replaced the bars with monkeylite CT2 Risers, but apart from that nothing. It took some getting used to but now that I am it is superb. A brilliant machine I love to ride.

Mavic Crossmax Wheelset

'VERY EXPENSIVE AND VERY GOOD WHEELS.'
Strengths:
Light weight, strong, and stay true. Excellent bearings,
Weaknesses:
only thing I can quibble with is in the detail. I would prefer them not to be coated in grey and to have less stickers on,
Overall:
These wheels are expensive and are they worth the money? All I can say is they are the best wheels I have ever used. I would have found it difficult to shell out the full price before I owned them, but having used for 12 moths now I would say they might even be worth the price.

'ALL DAY EVERY DAY.'
Strengths:
Excellent frame with perfect geometry (for me) I ride this bike every day to work, with a child trailer in tow. It can carry more luggage than I can lift (on a Blackburn back rack) which has very little effect on the handling.
Weaknesses:
I had to change the handlebars for straights along with the stem to a short and high one so I can see over cars.
Overall:
This bike is a real work horse and one of the most comfortable I have ridden. I change the sealed B/B yearly, along with the chain, this keeps the Shimano Deore chainset and gears smooth.
