Weaknesses: Expensive? Weak side walls? Build quality? Useless off road?
Overall: At maximum inflation a puncture can cause a minor explosion which may destroy the tyre. Sadly! My favourite tyres even though build quality is not great and only really good on smooth dry tarmac.
Strengths: Long lasting, grippy, very comfortable, has an absorbent quality to it that I have not noticed with any other tyre. Equally good on dry and wet tarmac.
Weaknesses: For its intended purpose I can't think of any!
Overall: I have used these tyres on and off and as a back up tyre for years. I find them very reliable in all weathers and surfaces but for snow/ice and loose surfaces. A really good 'standard' tyre.
Strengths: Great ride quality, go anywhere tyre. Fairly light and very comfortable.
Weaknesses: Side walls fail quickly, before tread.
Overall: When these tyres are on my bike, typically in the winter, I call the bike Tank. Great all round go anywhere tyre. Sadly the side walls failed before the tread, a weakness which may give the tyre its great ride but a luxury I can't afford annually! I just replaced them with some Schwalbe Land Cruisers. Probably a mistake!
Strengths: Seemed like good value at the time and there wasn't much choice when I got them.
Weaknesses: Side walls fail, as they have on all Specialized tyres that I have had. The EX version suffer more punctures than the Armadillo version.
Overall: Hard rolling/lots of vibrations. Reasonably light and capable tyre. There is better and worse to choose from. The Armadillo version has been puncture proof in my case. Basically they are Bland!
Strengths: Robust, great for a local ride around bike. Little risk of punctures, tough side walls, comfortable and reliable on almost any terrain.
Weaknesses: Heavy. More than just the center ridge makes contact with the tarmac. Ugly?
Overall: The Specialized Crossroads were/are a much nicer tyre to ride on but then you don't get them for £9 each and I suspect these tyres are much longer lasting than the Crossroads. I have seen these tyres on Royal Mail bikes which caused my initial interest in them.
Strengths: Great to keep things within easy non-stopping reach. With strap can be used as a shoulder bag. Well made. Easy to mount/unmount.
Weaknesses: Shoulder strap could be longer. Obscures view of front wheel when mounted.
Overall: I don't take the bike without it now. Not as good as a well made shoulder bag off the bike and not as good as a basket on the bike but a very good compromise.
