| 'I THOUGHT I'D ARRIVED IN HEAVEN' | | Strengths: If you are in to biking off-road and big mountains then I cannot imagine a better week than I had with MBMB. The guides there have been riding the trails around Mont Blanc for over a decade which means the very best is handed to you on a plate. This leaves you to put absolutely everything into enjoying the immense thrill of riding on immense mountains. I'll never forget one downhill into Les Houches that descended the height of Ben Nevis in one go that took in wooded singletrack, off-the-back-of-the-saddle rocks and high speed fire road. At the end of it the only downside was the sense that my brain was not going to manage to store the experience in all its glory. That downhill can be countered by the climb I remember as Le Planet (?) which was so fearsome I'm sure my heart burst through my ribcage. The only way up is to take it switchback by switchback, as you reach one you dare yourself to go for the next. At the top as you stare down through the trees to the valley far below your packed lunch becomes one of the best you've had. | | Weaknesses: The only problem is that you won't fit all the great rides into one week. Mind you, that's a good excuse to go back. | | Overall: Absolutey top. |
