FC Scotland seeks MTB hire operator

With the 7stanes trails at Mabie Forest, Dumfries being expanded (the flagship Red Route has been doubled in length, and there's a jump park and North Shore-style bits in the works) Forestry Commission Scotland are looking for someone to run a bike hire centre in the forest. The successful candidates will operate a mountain bike hire centre providing services, accessories and advice to cyclists. The centre will fill a void left be the closure of Rik's Bike Shed - Rik and his crew built the first incarnation of the Red Route, but the store is no more.

Bill Coombes from Forestry Commission Scotland said:

"We are looking for highly motivated and experienced people who have a good feel for what mountain bikers want and how to deliver it. The successful candidates will work closely with Forestry Commission Scotland to deliver the goods on the ground."

Candidates interested in the opportunity should apply to Bill Coombes, Recreation Manager, Forestry Commission Scotland, Ae Forest District, Ae Village, Dumfries DG1 1QB by Friday 16 April 2004.

With the popularity and profitability of Glentress perhaps the FC are trying to force out existing tenants to cash in on the MTB market by running their own shops at each 7 Stane forest?

If Riks Bike Shed closed because of lack of funds/profit etc I doubt anyone else will make it work, he'd been there for years and knew the the place insideout and knew the name of all the regular punters who visited Mabie.

(As I said before) Riks Bike Shed RIP
