Full-on barrow action

It's all happening with North Yorks trail building volunteer group SingletrAction. Only the other day we reported on the club's involvement in Dalby Forest's forthcoming £400,000 trail project, and here they are again with further developments at Stainburn Forest.

The Warren Boulder Trail is SingletrAction's baby. It's a 100% volunteer-built trail and is designed to include more technically-challenging sections than generally find their way into "mass-market" trails. It's also something of a test piece, letting the builders experiment with different ways of doing things, finding out what works and what doesn't and feeding that into the next sections.

Hovis Corner, The Cascade and Hadrian's Wall are the three sections currently under construction, each in its own way following the Boulder Trail's eponymously rocky ethos. The club has also built a bit of "North Yorks Shore" in the shape of a see-saw (or teeter-totter, if you must) with a maximum height of 2m.

Apparently they've also put in a new stretch of singletrack to link the Boneshaker section to the Metcom Descent. We imagine that means something to local riders...

The not-yet-finished stuff needs a big volunteer push to get it ready for action, though. There's 60tonnes of aggregate to transfer from large piles on to the trails and only wheelbarrows to shift it in, so anyone who's in the area and has a bit of time to spare will be very welcome indeed - SingletrAction hopes to have the new bits open by the end of the summer.

And if you can't/won't dig, you could always join the club - it's only £15 and your money goes towards materials and tools. By the looks of things it'll be money well spent. Visit www.singletraction.org.uk to find out more.
