Shirt costs Peat World Cup win

At the Maribor World Cup round last weekend Steve Peat was looking on target to avenge his home defeat of last weekend until a smart clothes change by Chris Kovarik gave him the edge over Peat by a whisker.

Peat had qualified first with Kovarik only 0.09 seconds behind him. Kovarik then decided on putting seconds before style, and switched to a more aerodynamic skinsuit just before his final run. Peat was quicker than Kovarik at all the intermediate time checks but bounced off course within sight of the line and the clock stopped an agonising 0.01 seconds behind than Kovarik.

That sort of gap has got to be well within the bounds of aerodynamic drag difference between flappy shirt and aero skinsuit, making it an expensive fashion mistake.

In the Women's race Anne Caroline Chausson made short work of the deteriorating conditions to take a clear run with neither Fionn Griffiths or last week's winner Tracey Moseley able to get close.

Chausson dominated again in the 4X, while in the men's Mike King took the holeshot and avoided a crash that felled all the other finalists including Brian Lopes and Steve Peat who finished second and third.

For full 4X results and race report ask the UCI, they'll probably have a full race report up soon too.
