Double hydration action

Hydration packs are splendid things, but they have their limitations. One of them is that there's only one reservoir, so if you like to carry energy drink and plain water, one of them has to go in a bottle. Which kind of negates the point of having the pack. There are a few twin-reservoir packs on the market, but now Trek have gone a step further.

The new Energy Cell packs can carry two separate fluids and have a special valve (the Blender) that lets you mix the contents of the two. Two different drinks, one bite valve and you can choose between all energy drink, all water or a mixture of both. Which is a pretty neat idea.

There are two Energy Cell packs reaching the shops soon. The Race pack (top) has 100 fl oz (3ish litres) fluid capacity from a single reservoir with two compartments and has space for a tube, tools, pump and the like. The Adventure is a more all-day oriented pack, with two separate reservoirs totalling 170 fl oz (nearly 5l) and 350 cu in of space (about 6l) for spare clothing, solid food and so on.

Pricing looks fairly reasonable, with the Race coming in at £49.99 and the Adventure £69.99, both from a Trek dealer near you shortly. More info from Trek's web site. We'll let you know how well they work as soon as we get one to play with...

So... two drinks in one pack, mixed together in proportions of your choice?

Make mine a Gin & Tonic. Shaken, not stirred.
