South-west area MTBers looking for a bit of winter race action need look no further than the splendidly-named Soggy Bottom Winter XC Series. The five-race series will be held at the well established venues of Newnham Park and Ashcombe, with a different course for each race. The first race is at Newnham on 2 November. "We plan to include a mixture of old World Cup courses and elements used on the Newnham 90 (no pipeline though)," says organiser Martyn Salt. Then it's Ashcombe on 7 December, Newnham on 18 January, Ashcome on 1 February and the final at Newnham on 21 March.
The series is being run by Inevent and EMBC (Exeter Mountain Bike Club) and is sponsored by Hi-Tec Home Improvements, Shred Magazine, Race Face, Freestyle Clothing, Alltrax, Bikin Motion and Mud Dock.
There'll be all the essential winter racing accoutrements - toilets, first aid, hot and cold refreshments, bike wash and hard standing car parking - and entry fees will be between £10 for fun and £15 for experts. Cash prizes and trophies for series winners, product prizes from the sponsors for each round.
