Berghaus goes biking

Berghaus's new Denizen MTB jacket

Outdoor outfitter Berghaus is getting into the bike market with an all-new range of jackets and overtrousers. The imaginatively-named Berghaus Bike range comprises seven jackets and two overtrousers (or pairs thereof). The jackets cover the men's and women's markets and use a variety of materials depending on price. Expect to see Gore-Tex XCR and Paclite fabrics on the high-end stuff and Berghaus's own Aquafoil on the less spendy gear.

The jacket in the picture is the £140 Denizen, featuring a combination of three-layer Gore-Tex XCR Stretch and Paclite, strategically-placed reinforcements and all the usual drawstrings, drop tails and stuff. All the jackets are hood-free but there's an optional hood extra available should you want one.

With those crisp, icy-cold winter days that we so desperately hope will appear in mind, the Lithium jacket looks like an interesting garment. Its Pertex shell is merely water repellent, but it's got a layer of Primaloft insulation for toasty warmth on proper winter days. Or zip the sleeves off if it turns out not to be quite as nippy as you thought...

The Lithium jacket does sound interesting - except it's Tweety Pie yellow. Urgh! No thanks.
