This year marks the 10th staging of Trail Break's Wight Diamond Festival over the spring Bank Holiday weekend (27-30th May) on the Isle of Wight. This 10th event promises to be the biggest yet, thanks to a generous sponsorship package from Red Funnel Ferries. Red Funnel are offering excellent ferry discounts for Festival goers too, that can be booked direct through the Trail Break website.
The Isle of Wight is one of the best kept secrets in UK mountain biking, with hundreds of miles of superb legal trails, ranges of hills and downs that run from 250m to sea level in the space of a few kilometres and stunning sea views. The Wight Diamond events make use the whole island.
The Festival offers three days of riding with a choice of different events. On Saturday and Sunday, there are two different Navigator competitions with categories to suit the serious or not so serious racer, or a choice of 40k or 60k route marked Trail Enduros on each day. On Monday, you can take on either an epic point to point hill ride or chilled lowland trail cruise to round off the weekend. Each event is booked separately so you can mix and match your weekend ride options; you can take on a weekend of biking that will make a 100k enduro look like a warm up ride, or just take your time and enjoy the easier trails.
The Festival is not just about biking though; there's plenty to do during your time out of the saddle as well. Based on the island's biggest campsite, the weekend pivots around the huge event centre marquee, where you'll find a fully stocked bar including local real ales, full weekend
catering from hot drinks and snacks through to an Italian porchetta pig roast, two nights of live music, the Sunday night prize presentation party and a special Saturday night 10th year celebration entertainment schedule.
This is a great weekend to bring partners and family along too. There are easy and family ride options and for non cycling kin, the Island offers beautiful country side and a wide range of theme parks zoos and attractions.
Running from Friday evening through to the Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, this is more than just a cycle event - it's a full weekend of riding, relaxing and partying.
