Dyfi Forest is already a popular MTB destination, being home to the annual Raw Dyfi Enduro and near to the Mach 1, 2 and 3 routes at Machynlleth. Now it's set to get even more popular with the opening of the Cli-machx Trail.

Cli-Machx is a 16km route built by local trail builders Ecotrails (they were also responsible for the trails at Nant yr Arian). As well as the usual attractions of smooth, flowing singletrack, rocks, jumps and berms, you get views over Snowdonia thrown in for free too. Highlight of the route is, we're told, the final 4.5km descent including a mountainside traverse, technical boulderiness, a pitch-black tunnel of trees and a final high-speed series of berms.

Local riders formed their own company and got European, Welsh and Forestry Commission funding to build the trail, with local community regeneration organisation Ecodyfi helping out. Plans are well advanced for a new 40km trail intended to strike out into the wilds of West Wales.

Riding the Dyfi trails looks like enough of a reason to head there, but if you need an excuse take your pick from the Dyfi Enduro (May 8) or the UK Singlespeed Championships (June 11/12).
