Merida 100 - Builth Wells

X
For the return to Builth Wells the organisers decided the course, well regarded amongst enduro veterans, needed a make over. The beginning and finishing sections were familiar, but nearly all the trails in between were new. The course designer, John Lloyd, found plenty of new singletrack in Crychan forest south of Builth, which if the weather had played fair would have been fantastic. But this is Britain in July so a downpour the night before (and plenty the preceding week) turned these trails into a quagmire. There was enough mud that only the really determined attempted to ride it all.

The weather on the day was good though, with patches of blue sky and the sun making brief appearances. It was all good fun, and most people seemed to be enjoying the hilariousness of all the mud, though many bikes needed a once over with a large stick to clear the accumulated mud (or just throw it into the trees and walk away as one rider chuckled at the middle feed station).

You might have spotted a photographer in a bright yellow t-shirt. Well he was our photographer attempting to get photos of every single person, not an easy task but with 1,600 photos he probably succeeded. Check for your photo here.

Next on the calender

9 July - Bad Goisern, Austria
If you're quick you can still get flights (try ryanair.com or flybe.com). If you're going, we'd love to hear about it once you've recovered.

31 July - Selkirk, Scotland
Last years event had rave reviews and everyone we've spoken to since have said it's one of the best enduros on the calendar, so it sounds worth the trip.
