CLIC24 is unique amongst 24 hour events in that it's all for charity - last year it raised over £34,000 for the eponymous children's cancer and leukaemia charity. It's also not a race - large parts of the course are on bridleways across the Mendip hills in Somerset, so it's all about personal goals.

That said, the recently-formed UK24 Solo Racing Club has teamed up with CLIC24 to add the event to its Points Series. As befits the ethos of the event, solo riders will get four series points just for starting, with an extra six bonus points available for soloists completing at least 70% of the number of laps completed by whoever rides the most, if that makes sense. Plus any soloist raising more than £300 in sponsorship will get a year's free UK24 membership and whoever raises the most sponsorship will also get two crates of Extreme sports drinks.

Last year's well-received course will be used again in 2006, with 10 miles of steady climbs and swooping singletrack. Other attractions include home-cooked food, live music and free camping. It's known as a fairly laid-back event, so if you're looking for a relaxed first 24 hour experience, give it a whirl. The fundraising target is £50,000, so the more the merrier.
