Readers with elephantine memories may remember Ibis Cycles. Founded by Scot Nicol in 1981, Ibis was responsible for plenty of cool stuff from the legendary Mojo and Ti-Mojo through to the alarming-looking 5in travel pivotless Bow-Ti full suspension bike. After running Ibis for 20 years, Nicol sold it. And then it went bust. Some of the bikes lived on thanks to designer John Castellano, but the Ibis name has just been a memory since 2002.
But now it's back. The reborn Ibis, with Scot Nicol in charge, showed a pair of distinctive carbon fibre bikes (one mountain, one road) at Interbike last year and they'll shortly be available in the UK exclusively from Stif in Leeds.
The MTB frame revives the Mojo name, but it's about as far from a steel hardtail as its possible to get. The new Mojo has a carbon fibre monococque frame and swingarm, joined together via a DW-Link rear suspension delivering 140mm (5.5in) of rear travel. The frame comes with a Fox RP3 shock (with a DHX 5.0 Air available as an option) and is claimed to weigh under 6lb.
The UK price will be a perhaps surprisingly reasonable £1,599 for the frame and shock. Obviously that's quite spendy but we were somehow expecting it to be more. First stocks of frames are expected any time now - give Stif a bell on 0113 225 1111.
