Pace has branched out into performance fluids (oil, lubes etc) with its new fluidworx (and before the pedants strike, its Pace that doesn't capitalise it, not us...) range. The first product is RC312 disc brake fluid. The name comes from its dry boiling point of 312°C, considerably higher than the 230 or so of regular DOT4 fluid.

The big advantage of a higher dry boiling point is that the boiling point stays pretty high even in the "wet" condition - that's when the fluid has absorbed moisture after a few month's use. The quoted wet BP is 204°C, not far off DOT4's dry BP. Given the small oil volumes and the tendency of small, light bike brakes to heat up quite a lot, that's a good thing.

You don't have to do anything special to your brakes to use RC312 as long as they run on standard DOT4 already - just flush them out and refill. RC312 is £6.95 for a 250ml bottle. Look out for more fluidworx products soon.
